Recycling bins for crabbing equipment have returned to Weymouth Harbour as families are reminded to crab responsibly ahead of the summer season.
Visitors to Weymouth Harbour are being encouraged to follow the “Crabbing Code” as dedicated recycling bins reappear along the waterfront.
The reminders, shared by the Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project, promote safe and responsible crabbing practices for families visiting the seaside.
Advice includes using bait bags instead of hooks, keeping no more than three crabs in a bucket, changing seawater regularly, keeping buckets in the shade and returning crabs gently to the sea.
Visitors are also encouraged to recycle unwanted crabbing equipment and take litter home after use.
Organisers say the initiative helps protect marine life while allowing families to continue enjoying one of the harbour’s most popular traditional activities.
