      <title>Woman due in court over fatal crash</title>
      <description><![CDATA[Dorset Police says the collision happened on Bridport Road in Dorchester at around 7.35am on Friday 16 May 2025.

It involved a white Fiat Panda and a bicycle.

The cyclist, 50-year-old Justin Loveland, was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he sadly died the following evening.

Following enquiries by Dorset Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, a 54-year-old woman from Weymouth has been issued with a postal requisition.

She is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday 29 May 2026 charged with causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.]]></description>

      <title>Heat-health alert issued for South West</title>
      <description><![CDATA[The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat-health alert for the South West.

The alert is in place from 2pm today until 5pm on Wednesday May 27.

Officials say the heat could increase pressure on health services and pose a higher risk to people aged over 65 and those with existing health conditions.]]></description>

      <title>Vital second meningitis vaccinations available to young people in south Dorset</title>
      <description><![CDATA[Young people in the Weymouth, Portland and Chickerell areas of Dorset can take up their second vaccination for Meningitis B next month.

 

Dorset HealthCare is rolling out the programme to more than 6,500 eligible young people after three people locally contracted the disease earlier this year. All three have made a full recovery.

 

The Trust, Dorset Council and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) are urging local pupils in school years 7 to 13 to attend a clinic from 1 June for their vital second vaccination to give protection against Meningitis B.]]></description>

The site was previously used by Weymouth College and sits close to the seafront.

      <description><![CDATA[A PORTLAND quarry could remain in use for another eight and a half years – possibly until 2036.
The Admiralty Quarry off Easton Lane takes in much of the inert material from local building sites – with no other viable site available locally, according to the application to Dorset Coumcil.
Operators of the non-recyclable site, G Crook & Sons Limited, are telling Dorset Council that infilling has been slower than originally anticipated when infilling started with estimates suggesting that another eight years would be needed to complete the infilling and full site restoration.]]></description>

Iain Danks, who is 35, is wanted in connection with a number of serious offences.

He’s from the Westbury area — but the offences took place in Salisbury.

      <description><![CDATA[Two men have been charged after a reported burglary in Weymouth.Police were called to Corscombe Close yesterday afternoon after residents spotted two people climbing onto a balcony and entering a property.

Officers arrived quickly and found two men still inside.

One was detained after leaving through the front door.

The other was arrested inside after trying to escape over the balcony.

At New Look House, proposals have been submitted for two new illuminated fascia signs as part of a refreshed appearance for the retail site.

The Grade Two listed seafront memorial has been cleaned, with new Portland stone plaques installed and worn lettering restored.

Councillor Peter Dickenson was elected as Deputy Mayor during the authority’s latest full council meeting.

Councillor Harris announced that his chosen charity for the coming year will be the British Heart Foundation and thanked fellow councillors for their support.

The council also confirmed Councillor David Civil as the new leader of the authority, with Councillor Alex Fuhrmann appointed deputy leader.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Morrisons is seeking permission to create eight electric vehicle charging spaces at its store off Dorchester Road in Weymouth.

The plans, submitted by Motor Fuel Group which operates the site’s garage, also include two jet wash bays, three valet bays and associated equipment.

The new facilities would be built to the left of the car park entrance, opposite the existing petrol station.]]></description>

      <title>Body found in search for missing Portland man</title>
      <description><![CDATA[Dorset Police says a body was discovered in the sea off the coast of Salcombe in Devon on the afternoon of Friday 8 May 2026.

The discovery came during the search for Gary, a 59-year-old man from Portland who had been missing since Thursday 23 April.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but police say it is believed to be Gary and his family has been informed.

Officers said their thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Police are appealing for witnesses after an assistance dog was injured in an attack by another dog in Weymouth.

The incident happened on The Esplanade near Greenhill Dental Practice last month.

A visually impaired man in his sixties was walking with the guide dog when it suffered injuries to its legs and ear.

Officers are urging two women believed to have been with the other dog to come forward.

      <title>Body found in search for missing man</title>
      <description><![CDATA[Tracy Richardson has thanked the public for their support following the disappearance of her husband Gary, who went missing on 23 April.

In a message shared online, she said the family received the “tragic news” that Gary had been found, but that it was “sadly not the good outcome we were all praying for”.

Mrs Richardson described Gary as “the love of my life”, saying the couple first married in 1988 before later rekindling their relationship and remarrying in 2016.

She added: “Forever my true love.”

Twenty-one-year-old Aaron Ghattoura is accused of wounding with intent and possessing weapons after an incident in Queensland Road on Sunday morning.

      <title>Man jailed for attempted robberies in Weymouth</title>
      <description><![CDATA[A Weymouth man has been jailed for six years after attempting to rob two businesses on the same day. 

49-year-old William Gage handed threatening notes to staff at a Post Office and a comic store claiming he had a weapon. 

No money was stolen and nobody was hurt. 

Police arrested him within hours following searches in the area.]]></description>
