Morrisons is seeking permission to create eight electric vehicle charging spaces at its store off Dorchester Road in Weymouth. The plans, submitted by Motor Fuel Group which operates the site’s garage, also include two jet wash bays, three valet bays and associated equipment. The new facilities would be built to the left of the car park entrance, opposite the existing petrol station.

Planning documents say the UK needs a major increase in public charging points to support the move to electric vehicles.

The application states there were around 87,800 public EV charging devices installed nationwide as of January 2026, but says the current pace of installation is too slow to meet the government’s 2030 target of 300,000 chargers.

Residents can comment on application P/FUL/2026/02075 until May 29.
