Plastic recycling bin installed on seafront

A new recycling bin designed for plastic bottles has been installed on Weymouth’s seafront. The nautical themed bin has been placed near the Jubilee Clock on the promenade. It is the first of its kind in Weymouth and the first installed in Dorset through the GreenSeas Trust campaign. The project aims to reduce plastic pollution reaching the sea. Local leaders say the bin will remind residents and visitors to recycle plastic bottles responsibly.

A new recycling bin for plastic bottles has been installed on Weymouth seafront near the Jubilee Clock.

The installation is part of a partnership between Weymouth Town Council and the GreenSeas Trust, a marine conservation organisation working to reduce plastic pollution reaching oceans and rivers.

The nautical themed recycling bin was unveiled on 2 April by the Mayor of Weymouth, Councillor Caroline Nickinson, alongside GreenSeas Trust founder Fazilette Khan and ward Councillor Jon Orrell.

It is the first BinForGreenSeas installation in Weymouth and the first in Dorset, becoming the 24th bin of its kind to be placed in coastal or riverside locations across the United Kingdom.

The campaign aims to encourage residents and visitors to recycle plastic bottles and prevent waste reaching the sea.

Councillor Nickinson said she was “proud to cut the ribbon” and described the bin as a reminder for people to dispose of plastic waste responsibly.

Fazilette Khan said Weymouth’s seafront is an ideal location for the installation and added that every bottle recycled helps prevent plastic pollution reaching the ocean.
