Plans to use part of a waterside car park at Crown Wharf in Castletown for boat and trailer storage have been refused.

Dorset Council has refused a planning application for part of Crown Wharf car park in Castletown, Portland, to be used for boat and trailer storage.

The application from Clark’s Boatyard also included associated vehicle parking and said the change had already taken place from July 2025.

More than 30 objections were submitted, including from Portland Town Council, with concerns raised about the loss of parking in an area where spaces are already limited.

Eighteen people supported the proposal.

Planning officers rejected the scheme, citing policy aimed at maintaining car parking levels unless there is no proven need or alternative provision is offered.

Elsewhere on Portland, Dorset Council has approved several smaller developments, including a temporary campsite at Watery Lane, emergency works at St George’s Centre and a number of household extensions.
