A Weymouth man has been jailed after detectives tracked him down following a stabbing in North Dorset.

Joshua Moore, 21, of Weymouth, has been sentenced to five years in prison after a stabbing in Sturminster Newton.

The incident happened on Tuesday 30 September 2025 at an address in the town.

Moore first assaulted a woman in her 30s by kicking her in the face, leaving her with bruising.

When a man confronted him about the assault, Moore stabbed him with what was believed to be a lock knife.

The victim was taken to hospital with three stab wounds to his body and arm.

Moore fled the scene and was later found by detectives at a hotel in Petersfield, Hampshire, where police say he had dyed his hair black in an apparent attempt to disguise himself.

He was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating, and was sentenced on Friday 5 June.
